Vinpocetine is a white crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless. Soluble in chloroform or 96% ethanol, almost insoluble in water. It is clinically used to improve various symptoms induced by cerebral infarction sequelae, cerebral hemorrhage sequelae, cerebral arteriosclerosis and so on.

Application

Vinpocetine can be extracted from (+)-vinca minor, which is extracted from Vinca minor, a plant of the Apocynaceae family, as a raw material, which is dehydrated into apovincamine, and then hydrolyzed to obtain its acid. Apovincaminic acid. Take the acid (1.0g, 0.003mol) and 0.17g of potassium hydroxide dissolved in 80mL of dry ethanol, add bromoethane (.4g, 0.0036mol), and reflux for 3h. After the reaction is complete, cool and evaporate to dryness. The remainder was dissolved in 500 mL of 2% sulfuric acid, and the pH was adjusted to 8. Extract with dichloromethane, dry with potassium carbonate, evaporate most of the dichloromethane, and add ethanol. Place it at 0°C overnight, collect the precipitated crystals by filtration, wash with cold ethanol, and dry to obtain 0.66 g of vinpocetine.
