Product Description:

Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (PLP, pyridoxal 5'-phosphate, P5P, Pyridoxal phosphate), the active form of vitamin B6, is a coenzyme in a variety of enzymatic reactions. The Enzyme commission has cataloged more than 140 PLP-dependent activities, corresponding to ~4% of all classified activities. The versatility of P5P arises from its ability to covalently bind the substrate, and then to act as an electrophilic catalyst, thereby stabilizing different types of carbanionic reaction intermediates.

It is an important cofactor for various enzymes (including aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase that catalyzes the final stages of neurotransmitter dopamine and serotonin production). P5P  is the most important coenzyme variant of vitamin B6 in the intracellular phosphorylation process and is interchangeable with other variants, including PNP and PMP.
