Product Description:
Fullerene is an allotrope of carbon. Any substance made of carbon in a spherical, elliptical, or tubular form can be called a fullerene. Fullerenes are structurally similar to graphite, but graphite has only six-membered rings in its structure, whereas fullerenes may have five-membered rings. In 1985, Robert Curl et al. prepared C60. In 1989, German scientists Huffman and Kraetschmer's experiments confirmed C60's caged structure, and the discovery of fullerenes by physicists was pushed to a new stage of scientific research. Fullerenes are called fullerenes because their structure is similar to that of Fuller, the architect.
As a prominent representative of the fullerenes family, C60 molecule is a spherical 32-hedron composed of 60 carbon atoms connected by 20 six-membered rings and 12 five-membered rings, which is very close to the structure of a football. Its unique structure and strange properties have attracted the attention of scientists all over the world. So far, C60 research has been involved in energy, laser, superconductor and ferromagnet, life science, materials science, polymer science, catalysis and many other disciplines and applied research fields, and increasingly shows great potential and important research value and application value.
