Caffeic acid phenethyl ester, referred to as CPAE, is one of the main active components of propolis and has an effect on herpesviruses. Other viruses inhibited by the components of propolis are adenoviruses and influenza viruses. CAPE, quercetin, isoprene ester, rhamnin, galangin, glycosides, polysaccharides and other substances in propolis have anticancer activity, can inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells and have a certain toxic effect on cancer cells, and CAPE has a specific lethal effect on tumor cells. The structure of caffeic acid phenethyl ester contains 0-dihydroxy phenyl structure, which is a common structure for scavenging free radicals, and there are two orthophenolic hydroxyl groups, which make the electron density on the benzene ring high and easy to oxidize automatically. Bors and other reports, 0-dihydroxybenzene ring structure plays an important role in antioxidation of flavonoids.
