L-selenomethionine is a selenium amino acid in which selenium replaces sulfur in the methionine molecule. It is a natural ingredient in the diet and is estimated to make up at least half of all dietary selenium. Like other forms of selenium salts and organic selenium compounds, L-selenomethionine is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is the most effective organic selenium. As a selenium-containing amino acid, it can be directly involved in the synthesis of proteins in living organisms, and is deposited in large quantities in tissue proteins. It has high deposition efficiency in animal products (meat, eggs, milk).
