Cognizin(Citicoline) is a brain chemical that occurs naturally in the body. As a medicine, it is taken as an oral supplement, intravenously or as an injection. Cognizin is used to treat Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, head trauma, cerebrovascular diseases such as stroke, age-related memory loss, Parkinson's disease, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and glaucoma.
Cognizin was originally developed in Japan to treat strokes. It was later introduced as a prescription drug in many European countries. In these countries, this is now very common for thinking problems related to brain circulation problems. In the United States, it is used as a dietary supplement.
