Product Description:

Benzoic acid is an antibacterial agent with a strong inhibitory effect on enzyme bacteria. A concentration of 0.1% in acidic environments has antibacterial effects, but in alkaline environments it becomes a salt and its effectiveness is greatly reduced. It is used as a preservative and to treat various skin diseases.

Uses, benefits, Side Effects

1.Preservatives
Benzoic acid and sodium benzoate have bactericidal and inhibitory effects on bacterial growth, and are low toxicity and odorless, making them widely used as preservatives. In slightly acidic media, only 0.1% concentration of benzoic acid can inhibit bacterial growth. Changing the pH value has a significant impact on the bactericidal and antibacterial effects of benzoates, and its effect is significantly reduced in alkaline media. The best effect is achieved when the pH value is between 2.5 and 4.5.
In the food industry, benzoic acid and sodium benzoate can be used as preservatives in soy sauce, kimchi, apple cider, fruit juice, feed, etc. Benzoic acid and sodium benzoate are also used as preservatives in drugs, cosmetics, toothpaste, powder, tobacco, etc. Sodium benzoate has a higher solubility in water and is usually used more, but its pH value is higher and its bactericidal and antibacterial abilities are much weaker than those of benzoic acid.

2.Medications
Benzoic acid, sodium benzoate, benzyl benzoate, etc. can all be used to manufacture various drugs for the treatment of arthritis, abscess, bronchitis, skin diseases, etc. They can also be used as local anesthetics. Benzoic acid can be used to make benzoic acid salicylic acid ointment. Benzoic acid salicylic acid ointment is a medicine made mainly from benzoic acid and salicylic acid, and added with lanolin and yellow vaseline. Among them, the combination of benzoic acid and salicylic acid can treat adult skin fungal diseases, as well as superficial fungal infections such as tinea corporis, tinea manus, and tinea pedis.

3.Fragrance fixative
Benzoic acid can be used as a flavoring agent for fruit juice beverages. It can be used as an ointment and incense essence. It can also be used in chocolate, lemon, orange, berry, nut, preserved fruit and other edible essence. It is also commonly used in cigarette essence. Due to the low solubility of benzoic acid, it must be thoroughly stirred or dissolved in a small amount of hot water or ethanol during use. When used in concentrated fruit juice for cool drinks, benzoic acid is commonly used as its sodium salt due to its tendency to evaporate with water vapor.

Application
This product is a disinfectant and preservative with antibacterial properties; In acidic environments, a concentration of 0.1% has antibacterial effects. Usually, lower pH values are more effective. For example, at pH 3.5, a concentration of 0.125% can kill Staphylococcus within 1 hour. The effect weakens in alkaline environments. External use can resist superficial fungal infections. Adding a concentration of 0.05-0.1% to pharmaceutical preparations or food as a preservative can inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi.
And it is slightly soluble in water and soluble in ethanol, ether,  benzene and so on.
